Ashwagandha, also known as Indian ginseng, winter cherry, or Withania somnifera, has been revered in Ayurveda for over 3,000 years. Above ground, the plant looks like a small shrub with pretty yellow flowers, but underneath the surface of the earth reside the powerful roots, which can be turned into medicinal extracts.
